This blog post is a start to a new series titled “Thrift Thursdays” where I share some great finds and buys from the local thrift stores or better known in PNG as Secondhand Shops (SH) in the city (POM). Here are a few pieces that are wardrobe essentials, must-haves and/or are trending in the country and globally.
One thing I love about SH shopping in PNG is that different SH shops offer different variety of clothing styles and are affordable. Depending on which SH shop you buy from you will be able to find quality clothing, trusted brands and fashionable pieces. Also note that since this is the first post of this new series, I did not plan a specific theme so you can see that the pictures were taken in different locations and settings. I am open to suggestions for my next possible theme and photo-shoot so feel free to comment or message me.
The Floral Kimono
In a tropical country like PNG, kimono’s are a total must have because not only do they add that instant cute factor to any outfit but they also keep you cool in the heat. If you don’t own one, you can always find one at your nearest SH Shop. I think they are a good investment because you can pair them with other pieces like those dull or plain colored tank tops you may be hiding away in your wardrobe. I see many SH Shops selling them and many women wearing them too.
Crop Tops are commonly worn during summer and in PNG (where its always summer), you might want to own a few of these. I find crop tops are perfect to pair with jeans, skirts (high waisted or maxis).
Cut Out Blouse
I’ve noticed that this trend of cutout sleeves and backlines are making a comeback into the fashion scene. You will notice many shops in POM selling these styles some from genuine brands and others are dupes from Asian brands that get imported into the country. I was pretty pleased with this find at the second hand because I love the color and there’s a white embroidered neckline. The fabric is cotton so its perfect for any hot day.
4. Midi Dress
I reviewed this dress on one of my previous Outfit Of The Day post. If you want to know more about this piece, make sure you check out that post.
Happy Thrifting everyone!
